Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with end-stage renal disease (permanent kidney failure). Medicare is divided into four parts:

Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health care. Part B covers physician services, outpatient care, some preventive services, and some home health care. Part C (Medicare Advantage) is an alternative to Original Medicare. It combines Part A and Part B coverage with additional benefits, such as prescription drug coverage, dental care, and vision care. Part D covers prescription drugs.

Medicare Part A

  • Inpatient hospital stays

Medicare Part B

  • Physician services
  • Outpatient care
  • Some preventive services
  • Some home healthcare
  • Cost: Monthly premium of $170.10 in 2023.

Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage)

  • Cost: This varies depending on the plan you choose.

Medicare Part D
