Medigap Plans for Hurst Texas Residents

Welcome! We understand that Medicare can be confusing, but don’t worry – Ashford Insurance is here to help. As an independent insurance agency specializing in the Medicare market, we have the flexibility to offer a wide range of Medigap plans and Medicare Prescription Drug products from various companies. Our goal is to provide you with an unbiased opinion after carefully reviewing your doctors and prescriptions.

If you’re a resident of Hurst, Texas, we have a selection of Medigap plans available from top carriers that you can choose from. Medigap plans, also known as Medicare Supplements, are standardized by the Federal Government and are labeled with letters such as A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, and N. Please note that Medicare Plan F is no longer available to those who become eligible for Medicare after January 1, 2020.

All Medigap policies with the same letter must offer the same basic benefits, regardless of the insurance company selling them. The main difference between policies is the cost. For example, Plan A covers Medicare hospital and physician coinsurance, the first three pints of blood, and extends hospitalization beyond Medicare coverage for 365 days. Plans B through N offer these benefits and additional coverage, such as Medicare deductibles, excess charges, limited preventive care, and foreign travel. Remember, you can only have one Medigap plan, so be cautious if someone tries to sell you an additional plan unless you decide to switch policies.

For Texas residents, open enrollment for Medicare Supplement Insurance starts at age 65, including those who are already receiving Medicare due to disability. This enrollment period lasts for six months, beginning when you turn 65 and are enrolled in Medicare Part B. During this time, insurance companies must sell you any Medicare supplement plan they offer. After this period, companies can determine who they will cover and how much they will charge based on your health. If you have an individual or “bank group” insurance policy, becoming eligible for Medicare does not necessarily mean you must cancel it and purchase a Medicare supplement. Compare the benefits before deciding which option works best for you.

If you have employer retirement insurance, carefully review the plan to understand the available benefits and how it works alongside Medicare. Keep in mind that employer plans are not standardized and do not adhere to the requirements of standardized Medicare supplement policies. Additionally, if you leave an employer plan, you may not be able to rejoin it.

To view a comprehensive list of available Medicare supplements, refer to our Medigap supplement chart, which can be found in the booklet “Choosing a Medigap” published by Medicare. This chart outlines the benefits included in each Medicare supplement, labeled Plan A through Plan N.
