Medicare Insurance Made Easy

Are You Eligible for Parker County Medicare?

Generally, you are eligible for Medicare if you or your spouse worked for at least 10 years in Medicare-covered employment and you are 65 years old and a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.

If you are not 65, you might also qualify for coverage if you have a disability or with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplant).

Here are some simple guidelines. You can get Part A at age 65 without having to pay premiums if:

  • You already get retirement benefits from Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board.
  • You are eligible to get Social Security or Railroad benefits but have not yet filed for them.
  • You or your spouse had Medicare-covered government employment.

If you are under 65, you can get Part A without having to pay premiums if:

  • You have received Social Security or Railroad Retirement
  • Board disability benefit for 24 months. You are a kidney dialysis or kidney transplant patient.

While you don’t have to pay a premium for Part A if you meet one of those conditions, you must pay for Part B if you want it. It is deducted from your Social Security, Railroad Retirement, or Civil Service Retirement check. If you don’t get any of the above payments, Medicare sends you a bill for your Part B premium every 3 months.

Medicare Explained

Medicare is the federal health insurance plan for people who are 65 or older.

It’s also available for those under 65 with certain chronic disabilities or End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).

However, Medicare does not cover all expenses for medical treatment or hospitalization; nor does it cover routine dental, vision, or hearing care. What is provided depends on the Medicare plan you select, your location, and as well as other factors.

How Does a Medicare Plan Work?

Medicare is for people who:

  • Are 65 and older,
  • Are below the age of 65 but have certain chronic conditions,
  • Have severe kidney disease, known as End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), that requires dialysis or transplant due to chronic kidney failure.

Here’s some information on when to enroll in Medicare:

  • Some people must sign up for Medicare while others are automatically enrolled.
  • If you’re almost 65 and not yet receiving Social Security, you’ll need to enroll yourself in Medicare.
  • There are specific enrollment times to sign up or make changes to your Medicare plans.

Our experienced agents are well-versed in Medicare enrollment periods and are ready to help you decide when it would be the best time for you to enroll. Call Ashford Insurance at 817-952-3153.

Beware of Misleading TV Ads

It seems that nothing ever changes when it comes to hawking insurance to fill the gaps in Medicare coverage for seniors. The fervent sales pitches, the misinformation and the incomplete and deceptive information continue to proliferate. The problems are especially prevalent during Medicare’s open-enrollment period, which began Oct. 15 and runs through Dec. 7.
