Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). It is administered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Medicare has two parts:
- Part A (Hospital Insurance) covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health care.
- Part B (Medical Insurance) covers certain doctors’ services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.
Medicare also offers several optional plans, including Part D (prescription drug coverage), Part C (Medicare Advantage), and Part E (Medicare Supplement).
