Fort Worth RV insurance

Before driving a motorhome or towing a travel trailer from Fort Worth, identify which policy protects the vehicle, the things inside it, and your liability. Ashford Insurance serves Fort Worth from its Hurst office. The answer depends on the RV type, how you use it, and the policy you buy; this is general guidance, not a coverage guarantee.

A motorhome is different from a travel trailer

The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) says a drivable motorhome needs an auto policy with liability coverage for accidents you cause. To protect your motorhome from damage, ask about collision and comprehensive coverage, including deductibles and exclusions. Do not assume liability coverage will pay to repair your own vehicle.

A travel trailer or fifth wheel is pulled by another vehicle. TDI says your auto policy might pay for accidents you cause while towing, but you probably need a separate RV policy or endorsement to cover damage to the trailer itself. Check the towing vehicle’s policy and the trailer’s coverage with your insurer. Tell the agent whether you drive a motorhome, tow a fifth wheel, or use a conventional travel trailer so the quote addresses the right vehicle.

Ask what happens to belongings and living space

TDI notes that home insurance might provide very limited coverage for personal property inside an RV. Ask whether the RV policy includes your belongings, what limits apply, and how it handles appliances and attached equipment. Compare the cost of different deductibles against what you could afford after a covered loss.

If you live in the RV full time rather than using it for trips, disclose that use. TDI suggests considering full-timers coverage, which includes personal property and liability protection for certain losses when you are not driving. Ask how the policy defines full-time use, where coverage applies, and whether the terms differ while the vehicle is parked or in motion. If you also want towing or roadside help, verify vehicle eligibility, service limits, and any separate cost instead of assuming it is included.

Review the actual policy before setting out

Bring details about the RV, its value, intended drivers, how often and where you use it, and any existing auto or home declarations pages. Ask about liability limits, damage valuation, belongings, full-time use, and out-of-state travel. Coverage, eligibility, pricing, and exclusions vary by insurer and individual circumstances.
