Choosing the Right Medicare Plan: A Guide for Texans

Choosing Medicare coverage starts with your doctors, prescriptions, preferred pharmacies, budget, and willingness to use provider networks. There is no single best plan for every Texas resident.

Start with the coverage structure

Original Medicare includes Part A and Part B. You can add a Part D drug plan and may consider Medigap. Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurers and generally combine Part A and Part B coverage, often with Part D.

Compare the details that change your costs

  • Monthly premiums and annual deductibles
  • Provider and hospital networks
  • Prescription formularies and preferred pharmacies
  • Copayments, coinsurance, and annual out-of-pocket limits
  • Coverage for travel, dental, vision, and hearing services
  • Plan availability in your county

Use the official Medicare Plan Compare tool with your medications and preferred providers. Benefits, costs, networks, and service areas can change each year.

A licensed agent can explain plan documents, but verify the final benefits in the plan’s Evidence of Coverage or Summary of Benefits.
