Medicare is a federal health insurance program that covers the majority of people who are 65 years or older, as well as certain individuals with disabilities and those with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). The program is managed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), a division of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Who Qualifies for Medicare?

Generally, you are eligible for Medicare if you are 65 years old or older and are either a citizen or permanent resident of the United States. If you are not 65, you may also qualify for coverage if you have a disability or ESRD.

There are four parts to Medicare: Part A (hospital insurance), Part B (medical insurance), Part C (Medicare Advantage), and Part D (prescription drug coverage). Part A and Part B are often referred to as Original Medicare.

Part A covers inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and home health care. Part B covers doctor services, outpatient care, medical equipment, preventive services, and some other medical services that Part A doesn’t cover.

Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans are offered by private insurance companies that have contracts with Medicare. These plans provide all the benefits of Part A and Part B and may offer additional benefits, such as dental, vision, and hearing coverage. They may also have lower out-of-pocket costs than Original Medicare.

Part D provides prescription drug coverage, and it is offered by private insurance companies that have contracts with Medicare. Part D plans vary in cost and coverage, so it’s important to review all options and select a plan that meets your needs.

Why Should You Have Medicare Insurance? – To Cover the Costs Medicare Does Not!

While Medicare covers many healthcare services, it does not cover everything. There are gaps in coverage, such as deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments, that beneficiaries are responsible for paying out of pocket.

In addition, Medicare does not cover routine dental, vision, or hearing care, and it does not cover long-term care in a nursing home. These services can be expensive, and without additional insurance, beneficiaries may struggle to pay for them.

That’s why it’s important to have Medicare insurance to cover the costs that Medicare does not. Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans are offered by private insurance companies and can help fill in the gaps in Medicare coverage, such as deductibles and coinsurance.

Medicare Advantage plans also offer additional benefits that are not covered by Original Medicare, such as dental, vision, and hearing coverage, and some plans even cover long-term care.

Having Medicare insurance can provide peace of mind knowing that you are covered for the health care services you need. With the help of a licensed insurance agent, you can compare plans and find one that meets your needs and budget.
